DeepRacer Round 1 Virtual Qualifiers
Brooklyn Bowl | 1000 – 1400
Highlights:
Met up with AWS DeepRacer Rep, Natasya and learned about how the global
DeepRacer League is run. I also spoke with Ray and Robin from DBS Singapore, as
they shared their experiences participating in the Singapore Nationwide
DeepRacer, and now, the DeepRacer Finals at Las Vegas Re:Invent.
During
this session 72 finalists from 6 regions (N America, S America, EU & UK, Asia
Pacific & Japan, Greater China Region and Middle East & Africa ) compete
for the top 5 timings so that they can decide the 30 best racers for the Grand Final.
The racers that missed out on qualifying still get a chance to participate in a
“Wildcard” elimination round for the last 2 slots for the Grand Final.
Most of the DeepRacer participants are males working or studying in tech. You can view some of their stories here.

Governments are using AWS to achieve their
mission

Swindon has over 100 languages and
spends a lot of time and money on translation services. They now use AI to
reduce the cost of translation
Papua New Guinea use AI to increase tax compliance
for land management
Governments grapple with problems such as not being able to compete on salary for tech
talent, slow procurement processes etc.
Example of scaling with the government – The
telephone
Example: Nebraska Judicial Branch handles
285,000 cases a yearTo automate the filing process, they wondered if
they should build new or buy. Eventually, they adopted an AWS solution that not only sped up the filing and information retrieval process using AI, but kept the data secure (The data is still kept by the Nebraska Judicial Branch)Lessons learnt...
