Not feeling it - SG60
It was Singapore's 60th National Day yesterday. For me, it felt muted and I just did not feel it.
Getting to 60 is indeed something that a country should celebrate but I felt really disconnected. Like the feeling that this country is not really mine. Despite serving National Service, despite having my home, family and friends here, I just don't feel connected to the ideas of what Singapore should be.
Maybe I am just an angry not-quite-old-but-over-the-hill man, but I watched the NDP song and felt NOTHING. NOTHING in there connected to the reality of what my country is like and is becoming. Perhaps other negative things in life happen and I am feeling that smog of negativity. Who knows how much that affected my perspective.
I took this picture to show my Saudi Arabian friend Abdul what Singapore looks like during National Day and this was the picture. I was not even excited enough to send it immediately. That perhaps is something to think about.
